Showing off the neighborhood
Sen. Mark Begich made a brief visit to Mountain View’s Bass Pro Outpost Thursday, bringing along visiting Montana Sen. Jon Tester.
Begich, who met with representatives from the Anchorage Community Land Trust and spoke with Bass Pro management during his stop at the store, said he wanted to show Tester how far the Glenn Square property had come.
“This used to be a hazardous waste dump site for the city, and now it’s an economic development project; paying taxes, employing people from Mountain View, creating a destination point,” he said. “It brings people into Mountain View, to kind of rediscover Mountain View.”
Library town hall
The senator will be back in the neighborhood Sunday for an afternoon town hall meeting at the Mountain View Library.
According to a representative for Begich’s Anchorage office, the town hall is an opportunity for voters and residents to approach Begich with questions or community issues.
It’s scheduled to begin Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. at the library, located at the corner of North Bragaw Street and Mountain View Drive.
