AmeriCorps is bringing a new teen coordinator to the Mountain View Library, and branch manager Virginia McClure hopes to spread the word among neighborhood residents interested in applying for the position.
The goal: Develop the library “into a safe space for teens to socialize, experiment, and explore through formal learning activities, workshops, teen-initiated programs, and unstructured time with positive adult role models.”
It’s part of AmeriCorps VISTA — a program of the community service organization aiming to reduce poverty nationwide. In Mountain View, the branch teen coordinator will recruit volunteers, build relationships with community partners like Clark Middle School and develop sustainable systems for use throughout the library system, according to a job description posted online.
The full-time, year-long volunteer position offers a monthly stipend, health benefits and childcare assistance, among other perks. It’s set to kick off in April, and applications are due by March 15. Applicants are required to be at least 21 years old with some college education.
