Dozens of people young and old crowded the community room at the Mountain View Library for a free performance by the Jabali African Acrobats Wednesday afternoon.
The six-man troop from Mombasa, Kenya welcomed their audience onto the floor for dancing and a game of limbo, then performed an energetic set of acrobatics that drew excited cheers from the crowd. People snapped photos on iPhones in between rounds of applause.
The acrobats are scheduled to perform Friday evening at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Click here for ticket information. Rob German, a marketing associate with the Alaska Junior Theater, said the acrobats have been busy performing for student groups all week. He said the Mountain View Library was another opportunity to introduce the Jabali African Acrobats to a uniquely Alaskan audience
“We thought this would be a great venue, just for the melting pot of cultures that we have; that they could just meet right here,” German said.
