The Street Fair Jam

Dance is coming back to the Mountain View Street Fair this Saturday.

The first-ever Street Fair Jam features one-on-one b-boy and all-styles competitions with MC Don Megga and DJ Chris Icarus. Admission is free. Registration takes place from noon to 1 p.m., and the jam is scheduled to run until the street fair ends at 5 p.m.

Behind it all is 20-year-old Marcus Freeman and a handful of other young performers.

Freeman is the leader of the hip-hop choreography crew Artistic Drift. He’s danced on stages around the state and organized more than a few Anchorage jams. The street fair brings a new venue for the local dance community.

“A lot of times when we throw our jams, they’re kinda hidden,” Freeman said.

Saturday’s Street Fair Jam takes place in the parking lot of Clark Middle School during one of the biggest neighborhood events of the year. Besides the usual mix of b-boys and hip-hop competitors, the jam will feature performances by a handful of Anchorage cultural groups.

“It’s a good way for everyone around us to see and be a part of it,” Freeman said. “There are all types of crazy talents around here in the community.”

Mark your calendar: The 2015 Mountain View Street Fair and Street Fair Jam is set to take place June 27 from 12 – 5 p.m. at Clark Middle School.
