Vigil planned in wake of deadly shootings

Flowers, candles, sweets, beaded rosaries, a pair of Everlast boxing gloves and a framed photo of Raynaldo Khotesouvan, 15, cover the memorial at the place where he died.

Raynaldo was one of two people killed in two unrelated shootings just blocks apart Friday. Brittney Sparks, 31, was found dead on the floor of a North Hoyt Street apartment following what was first reported as an accidental shooting: Read more from the Anchorage Police Department. Raynaldo was killed fewer than two hours later, on North Bliss Street, just a few blocks away. Another teenager was arrested and charged with his murder: Read more from the Anchorage Daily News.

“Raynaldo Khotesouvan was a sweet and caring brother and friend, loved by many and taken too soon. He enjoyed fishing, going for bike rides, and sports,” reads a GoFundMe page dedicated to the teenager’s funeral expenses. “Raynaldo is survived by his mother, father, and 13 brothers and sisters.”

A candlelight vigil is set to be held near the corner of North Bliss Street and Parsons Avenue Monday at 7 p.m.
