Update: According to her parents, 14-year-old Stephanie Chambers was located and returned home safely over the weekend.
It’s been nearly a month since 14-year-old Stephanie Chambers disappeared from her home in Jewel Lake.
Friday, flyers bearing her photograph papered light poles and stop signs along Thompson Avenue.
It wasn’t the first time the teenager ran away, her parents said. While her family was in contact with police, Matthew Kelchner said there wasn’t much they could do to find his daughter.
“It wasn’t an abduction,” he said Friday by phone. “If it was an abduction it would be a different story.”
The last time his daughter ran away, Kelchner said she was picked up by police at the mall. Several days later she disappeared again, and he said that was the last time her parents saw her.
Through Facebook, Kelchner said they learned she was in Mountain View as recently as two days ago. His daughter ran away with a 17-year-old girlfriend, and he said they could be sleeping in a car.
He’s driven through Mountain View looking for her, and said the family thought about visiting Mountain View churches to distribute flyers with Stephanie’s information.
If enough people saw her picture, Kelchner said, maybe someone would recognize her and help her family bring her home.
She’s described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 115 pounds with brown eyes and dark brown hair, possibly bleached blonde.
