Thread’s annual Book Party in the Park is set to bring a full afternoon of activities to Mountain View’s Garden Art Park Thursday.

There’ll be a cardboard box construction zone, crafts and live music. But at the heart of the event is a book giveaway that aims to distribute thousands of free books to kids of all ages. According to thread, a statewide child care resource agency, last year’s event distributed more than 4,000 books and saw more than 500 families attend.

This year, book donations for the event were collected at several locations throughout Anchorage during the month of June. They will be distributed during the book party, which takes place from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the park at 3350 Commercial Drive.

Overflow parking is available at Clark Middle School, event organizers said. Book party supporters include ConocoPhillips Alaska, Fred Meyer, First National Bank Alaska, Credit Union 1 and Sen. Bill Wielechowski.
