A cow moose was poached in the middle of Mountain View Tuesday, according to local law enforcement.
The animal was shot and killed near the intersection of N. Bragaw St. and Parsons Ave., and the Anchorage Police Department was first notified around 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, said APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad. Palmer-based Alaska Wildlife Troopers arrived on scene later that morning, according to Alaska State Troopers, and the moose was salvaged by a local charity.
Moose are often spotted in Davis and Lions Park or near Tyson Elementary and Ship Creek, but it’s less common to see them wander this far into the neighborhood. While troopers recovered evidence from the scene, AST is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Trooper Dispatch at 907-352-5401. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing.
