Planning for the Mountain View Neighborhood Cleanup is in full swing.
Powered by neighborhood volunteers and private donors, the community event annually collects more than 100 tons of trash from around the neighborhood. This year’s cleanup is tentatively scheduled to begin April 28, according to event organizers.
The event usually coincides with the weeklong Citywide Cleanup organized by the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, this year set to take place April 28 – May 5. Last year, more than 4,000 volunteers in 152 teams collected more than 1,206 tons of trash from around the city, according to the Chamber.
Preliminary plans for this year’s Mountain View cleanup include dumpsters set up at Davis Park and a cleanup kick-off event at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club. Organizers plan on meeting regularly in the weeks leading up to the cleanup, with the first volunteer planning meeting scheduled to take place March 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club.
