Part of Anchorage’s annual Juneteenth celebration, public festivities are set to take place at several Mountain View venues this weekend.
The celebration — known as an African America Independence Day — begins Friday at 5 p.m. with family activities at the VFW post at 3105 Mt. View Drive. The evening will include games and a presentation on the history of Juneteenth, according to the event’s website.
Saturday, the official Juneteenth event is scheduled to begin at the Mountain View Community Center at 1 p.m. The day is set to include a performance by the Underground Dance Company, a speech by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, a movie screening and children’s activities.
